Pentecost 2012

celebrating pentecost 2012

to many of us who think of Pentecost as a denomination or a church, this message is for you, for many of us who think there is no reason to be concerned about the church, this is again a message for you. this message is for christians or people who call themselves christians. if you are not a christian, let me warn you, that some things may slip your mind so be free to ask me in the comments or on twitter or personal email at smathew2237@gmail.com.

in christianity we believe in a monotheist belief like Judaism and Islam, but worship the God of Judaism not Islam. the turn down for many people is the added effect of deity issues that come with christians saying they believe in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and blow away the concept of monotheism. so what does the christian believe ? well, we believe God, existed before time and he was not created, his existence was not one but as three different beings. there is no shape or size or dimensions we could give to God so what we see is a manifestation of their likeness. some may call it like the 3 dimensions of a book , the length, breadth and thickness and if any element is removed, the book does not exist any longer. others may call it ice, water , steam but i refrain from this theory as it does not support the existence of the three in a time bounded system or in real time, but if we read in Matthew 3:17 [READ BIBLE] we realise that both the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit existed together in a time bounded system. I some times attribute it to generation of electricity from a dynamo. we have a stator , rotor and brush to make electricity and without any of the three parts, we do not have electricity. note: God does not need a active motion to produce electricity as he is perpetual.

now, when Jesus had risen from the death, he met with his disciples teaching them and telling them about the work they had to do. so on one really warm evening he told them this, go and tell everyone, what joy you have found in realising the truth that I, Jesus have overcome the world and the mankind is no longer doomed waiting without the knowledge that forgiveness is given or not, and then once they believe and understand what i have done for them, in changing them and their lifestyle and their world view and they have decided to follow me, baptise them, let them make it clear to themselves and others around them that the have decided to follow me and only me, worshipping the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit there by making their hearts in union with me and teach them and train them everything I have taught you and this my friends please understand, I will be with you, in every step and every walk and will guide you to me. [the context is paraphrased ] . when Jesus had said this and done all this and before he went to heaven (on a different day perhaps) he said to them, I am going away, but I am giving you a guide, who is from me and the father, who is of me and the father, and we are one, and this person is the very Spirit of God, the very nature of God, and the nature of Holy God would come on to you and will be like a friend to you, if you have decided to be the friend of the Holy Spirit and will guide you into all things I have taught you and help you to move mountains [ context is paraphrased ].

once Jesus had gone to heaven, the disciplines and may believers had come to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival called the Festival of Weeks (Hebrew: חג השבועות Hag haShavuot or Shevuot) remembering the day when the 10 commandments were given to the people of Israel [READ BIBLE] by God through Moses, that same day the Holy Spirit came down on the 300 people in Jerusalem [READ BIBLE], who were from different places and gave the meaning of the law that God gave on mount sinai on their hearts. see, what happened was like religion like Judaism and Islam believes in living according to the law, but the law is set for a reason. if I say, drive wearing a seatbelt, it is a law, but it was instituted for a reason, so that you may not be thrown off in an accident, in the same manner the law is given for a reason and people as time goes by forgets the reason and become considered to keep the law and this is what the Holy Spirit is, the Spirit of God was the voice of God when God made the earth and the air of God when he blew into man to make him alive, this Spirit that gives life rested in the hearts of men so that they may realise the truth.

this day is the day of pentecost, the day the glory of God rested in hearts of men so that the human race will no longer run behind doing good deeds but rather be the good deeds. This is what i have to say to you, God is alive, living and actively working in human beings, moving them beyond their imaginations and this is what God says, I will live among my people and if you are wondering how you know this is true and how to receive the Holy Spirit , realise one thing, when you became a Christian, said that you will not follow anything but God, the Holy Spirit began his work in you [READ BIBLE], the day of the Pentecost was when he was manifested in human beings , the day they saw signs and wonders, mere men moving mountains, if that is what you desire, ask God, Lord I want your work to reveal in my life and will your Holy Spirit manifest in me. I desire to be moved by your Spirit.

God Bless you as you realise this truth. For those who are non believers , I am happy to talk and reason with you, without hurting your religious or world view, so be free to email me.

The Nativity - by Gari Melchers

This could be my first ever critique of art that I have ever written and that is because it is only recently art has captured my interest as much as this work. This write up is made both in English and German as I want to practice my German.  'The Nativity' by Gari Melchers.  I am not an art expert and my critique is from a layman's point of view, but bear with me. I have tried reading some information about the art and the culture behind it and I have my two favourite blog posts about the same work and yes,  I have shamelessly copied some of their thoughts. Woebegone but Hopeful and other is by Lisa VO . Julius Garibaldi Melchers (August 11, 1860 – November 30, 1932) was an American artist. He was one of the leading American proponents of naturalism. He won a 1932 Gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.[1] - Wikipedia The Nativity is painted during the peak of realism movement - in a gritty and less idealised manner . For m

2 Kings 5 | Part 2 | Naaman and the Offense of the cross

This section of the story in 2 Kings chapter 5 focuses on Naaman. We know that Naaman was the commander in chief of the armies of Syria and possibly the right hand man as he was incharge of strategic, political and warfare and security. This was a very prestigious role that Naaman had earned. Some Jewish Rabbis say that his ruthlessness and his power resulted in God punishing Naaman with Tzaraat which is translated as Leprosy. For the sake of these notes, I would consider the word Leprosy.  Naaman was powerful and wise. In fact, it was God who had blessed him from the start. The verse says that Naaman was a powerful and influential man valued by the king greatly. His victory was a gift from God to Aram. Why would God bless a foreign nation to attack the Israelites? In Deuteronomy chapter 28, Moses tells the people that God would make the enemies of Israel punish the people of God if they are disobedient. Jehoram, the then king of Israel was the son of Ahab. Ahab and his wife Jezebel le
