Two weddings and a funeral

I am in the next few blogs going to write on the topic " The joy of living ". The wonderful experience of having life. Really an odd topic and I would mention this heading on all the blogs that relate to this as "Joy of living". So this is Joy of living - Part 1:

Two weddings and a funeral

The title is similar to a holly-wood movie, but this is just a title and has nothing to do with the movie- honestly. OK, since you do not believe, let me give the very well known disclaimer -

"All characters in this are original and do not in any manner represent any work of art or is intended to do so. If any similarity is seen, I declare it as mere coincidence."

Happy? So let us begin. Let me ask you a question. Are you really happy today? Donot worry, the blog will make you cry.

For the rest of you who do not nitpick, welcome once again. There were two weddings and a funeral this week, and all of them reminded me that I should be glad for the life that I have been given and I thought it would be worth to share with you since I cried at all of them. The first wedding of course was celebrated by a huge number of people and I was not there literally to wish the couple and say happy married life, but I really do hope that Kate and William do enjoy a wonderful life together. I basically do not follow fashion, but here I was, wondering which dress would Kate wear to the wedding. I basically think that it was not all that great, and I know many women folks would kill for that and I therefore refrain from commenting on the dress. I was moved at the words that was said by the priest who conducted the wedding. As its free speech, I wish to quote some here,

"In a sense every wedding is a royal wedding with the bride and the groom as king and queen of creation, making a new life together so that life can flow through them into the future.
William and Catherine, you have chosen to be married in the sight of a generous God who so loved the world that he gave himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.
And in the Spirit of this generous God, husband and wife are to give themselves to each another.
A spiritual life grows as love finds its centre beyond ourselves. Faithful and committed relationships offer a door into the mystery of spiritual life in which we discover this; the more we give of self, the richer we become in soul; the more we go beyond ourselves in love, the more we become our true selves and our spiritual beauty is more fully revealed. In marriage we are seeking to bring one another into fuller life.
It is of course very hard to wean ourselves away from self-centredness. And people can dream of doing such a thing but the hope should be fulfilled it is necessary a solemn decision that, whatever the difficulties, we are committed to the way of generous love." [read more here]
How many times do we realise that we are the kings and queens of this creation, how many times are we grateful that when it rains, we have a shelter over our head. Or how many times do we realise that there is a purpose for which we are blessed. The words used by the clergy was so apt, so simple and thought evoking.

The next day I attended another wedding, and this time it was real time, I was there, I was at my cousins marriage. It was beautiful, I cried at it too. In the wedding liturgy there were these phrases used: "You are the kings and queens of this creation, you are reminded again that the purpose of your unity, your creation is in-fact to give glory to God, and to take care of the earth that he has given you to rule. Multiply, reproduce and bring forth generations that would be for God." How many times have we took time to pause and say man, the sky looks pretty, the sunset is beautiful, so perfect from one end to other like in a well painted picture.
The artist took every time he had so that the sunset is different everyday. Simple, like a song in the bible that goes like this "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies show his handwork.A day tells another day this speech, and night unto night it shows knowledge". Its not that we do not have time to take a break, its that we ignore it, calling it scattering of light. I would give you any number of crystals and sand in the world. Could you ever scatter light so beautifully? Back in my school days when we learned that the sky was blue due to dispersion of blue light component in the white light, we did an experiment. I think it was called Newton's scattering experiment. All I got was a thin line of red light what was far polarised and nothing compared to the red sun that we see at the beach wallpapers on our computer screen. Can we pause the next time, as early as its possible within our work timings to see and admire the beauty of nature, not a photograph, not a wallpaper for $1, a real sunrise or sunset.

After the Sunday I had to attend a funeral on Monday. My relative passed away, I was not so close with him, but there were many close. Amongst them was a little girl, she may have been roughly about six or seven, she was not able to see her grandfather silent. The body was taken to the church for the funeral ceremony and later the burial in a cemetery nearby, it travelled on an ambulance with the rear door open. I was following them, trailing slowly, escorting the ambulance at the rear.I saw the wife of this man and the little girl there at the back seat of the ambulance, both whimpering, onlooking the silence that they saw of a man who had been a part of their lives.
The little girl reached forth to touch his face which was still uncovered, her tiny fingers trembling, her grandmothers hand closely followed hers, I believe both wished that the touch would evoke some form of stimuli in him, but it did not't. The little girl turned around and looked into the wet eyes of her grandmother and hugged. There were no words that was needed for anyone on earth to tell me what they said, I broke into tears. I could no longer escort them. My bike stopped, I stood at a distance onlooking a future where I would be in his place. The funeral ended with the a reading from bible, declaring the truth that he believed in "O death, where is your sting? O, grave where is your victory?" A bewildering and strange victory call at the onset of what seems to have been a defeat. Aren't you glad that you have been able to breath till the end of this? Aren't you glad that another day was lived?

In the movie Titanic, Jack is invited to the table with the captain and Rose's parents , Rose's fiancé, and several others who are very rich and well in life. Jack is in-fact the poorest in the lot. He glances slowly at every one of them when asked a question, he smiles and says the following.

"Well, yes, ma'am, I do... I mean, I got everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you... to make each day count.  "

. Is not Jack right? Making each day count, and counting them as a part of God's gift to you, Does that not make an impact on your life, to know that some one perfected and fashioned this day that you might enjoy it to the fullest. The realisation of this truth, that everyday is a day that is made for a purpose, that everyday is a new story of a book that you call life, is the ultimate reason that i find in for me and you to enjoy this life.
God bless you.

The Nativity - by Gari Melchers

This could be my first ever critique of art that I have ever written and that is because it is only recently art has captured my interest as much as this work. This write up is made both in English and German as I want to practice my German.  'The Nativity' by Gari Melchers.  I am not an art expert and my critique is from a layman's point of view, but bear with me. I have tried reading some information about the art and the culture behind it and I have my two favourite blog posts about the same work and yes,  I have shamelessly copied some of their thoughts. Woebegone but Hopeful and other is by Lisa VO . Julius Garibaldi Melchers (August 11, 1860 – November 30, 1932) was an American artist. He was one of the leading American proponents of naturalism. 2 Kings 5 | Part 2 | Naaman and the Offense of the cross

This section of the story in 2 Kings chapter 5 focuses on Naaman. We know that Naaman was the commander in chief of the armies of Syria and possibly the right hand man as he was incharge of strategic, political and warfare and security. This was a very prestigious role that Naaman had earned. Some Jewish Rabbis say that his ruthlessness and his power resulted in God punishing Naaman with Tzaraat which is translated as Leprosy. For the sake of these notes, I would consider the word Leprosy.  Naaman was powerful and wise. In fact, it was God who had blessed him from the start. The verse says that Naaman was a powerful and influential man valued by the king greatly. His victory was a gift from God to Aram. Why would God bless a foreign nation to attack the Israelites? In Deuteronomy chapter 28, Moses tells the people that God would make the enemies of Israel punish the people of God if they are disobedient. Jehoram, the then king of Israel was the son of Ahab. Ahab and his wife Jezebel le

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: Preface: Why are we looking through this book? Unlike the letter of James, this book is written to a Jewish / Gentile Christians who are scattered across various provinces that are outside their ideal world. In the last two weeks we have been looking at what it means to live as people who love God. Today and the weeks to follow, we will look at how this is meant to be worked out as people living among other nations.
